COUNCIL FAVOURS LINKING WITH ARAPUNI SCHEME

The chairman (Mr. W. Vickers) gave an outline of the business transacted at the conference of delegates from the four Northern counties and Kaitaia and Kaikohe town districts to make preliminary investigation into the proposals which the Public Works Department had made for forming a Northern Power Board. Mr. Millar, the assistant electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, said Mr. Vickers, had addressed the meeting pointing out the advantages of linking up with the national scheme, and the conference came to the conclusion that it would be ad-

visable to take that course. Mr. Millar said they could deliver electricity to a central point in the district in two years time. It would be necessary ultimately to form a power board to undertake the reticulation of the district if the scheme was proceeded with, but the first step was to set up a provisional committee to take a load survey of the district in order to see if the demand would return sufficient revenue to meet al> costs.

A resolution, on the motion of Crs. Wrathall and Holder, was then < a . - •• id to the effect that the Council favour the formation of a power board for the four Northern counties and town districts concerned, and that the chairman and Crs. Barriball and Thompson be appointed county representatives on the provisional committee.
