Prize-giving at Fairburn School

On Tuesday last about twenty of the parents of the Fairhurns school children assembled at the school for the annual prize-giving ceremony. In the playground both adults and children enjoyed various games of skill. The classrooms were gaily-decorated, and samples of the children’s writing, blackboard and paper drawing and handwork were exhibited. Visitors and children gathered in front of the school, where the year’s work and play were reviewed by the head teacher Mr. K H. Flicker. The Chairman of the School Committee, Mr. W. Metcalfe, then spoke and presented the certificates. Pupils it 1933 won the following—swimming 8, (distances'from, 25 to 880 yards) life-saving 3; home gardens 11 and special prize to child with the best garden ; good attendance?; Proficiency 7 (Audrey and Joan Christensen, Clarice and Elva Coulter, Lorna Tracey, Ross Buckingham and Guy MacPlierson). Afternoon tea provided by the ladies was then served and games concluded the afternoon.
