Fairburn-Kaiaka
A Prize-Giving Dance A very successful and enjoyable little dance was held at Fairburn on Friday evening to raise funds mainly for prizes for the children’s sports at the Armistice Day picnic, and £4 10/ was realised. Mr. A. H. Stanton was master of ceremonies and Miss Eunice Christensen supplied excellent music at the piano. Church Services We have just had a visit from the Rev. E. D. Patchett, president of the N.Z. Methodist Conference, who preached in the Fairburn Church on Sunday before a large congregation, delivering a most impressive sermon. Mrs. Geo. Chapman sang a solo and Mr. Bruce Foster was organist. After service many accepted the invitation of the ladies of the congregation to stay to lunch, and spent a pleasant friendly time round the well spread tables. Some remained for the afternoon service when the Rev. R. H. Trill delivered an eloquent sermon on “The Need for Peace in the World,” in view of the approach of Armistice Day. Quarterly Methodist Meeting The quarterly meeting of the Methodist circuit was held in the church on Saturday evening, at which Mr. Patchett presided. He was the guest, during his stay, of Mr. and Mrs. G. Chapman, Mangatoitoi.
