Miss E. Walker, of Awanui ( . returned last week from a holi- T day trip to Auckland. Mrs. S. A. Thompson, of P.ie roa, is spending a few weeks in Kaitaia. „ Constable E. Buckley, who fills J the position left vacant by the transfer of Constable O’Gorman to Christchurch, arrived in Kaitaia last Saturday night. Mr. J. Flatten, formerly editor of the Northlander, has found that the American immigration laws prevent him from accepting the appointment offered to him by an American firm. Mr. Flatten left San Francisco last Wednesday, and is due to arrive in Wellington on December 16.
Mr. J. Wilson, assistant-engin-eer to the Mangonui County Council, has accepted a position with the Public Works Department near Whangarei, and will leave Kaitaia just before Christmas. At last meeting the council passed a resolution accepting Mr. Wilson’s resignation with regret, councillors making complimentary reference to his ability and steadiness.
The vacancy in the parslorate of the Whangarei Presbyterian Church caused by the death of the Rev. G. W. Lochore will be filled by the Rev. William Elliott, of Knox Church, Wanganui. The Rev. Mr. Elliott is well and favourably known in this district, for he was the first Presbyterian minister to reside to the district, a position which he held for many years. Mr. W. Rose, chairman of directors of the Kaitaia Dairy Factory, left on Monday night for Wellington to attend a conference ot the council ot the Empire Dairies. Mr. Garner, of Northcofe, Auckland, was in this district last week on business connected with The North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op.
