HIGH AND INFANT SCHOOLS.
TENDERS CALLED FOR WORK HIGH SCHOOL READY FOR NEW YEAR INFANT SCHOOL WITHIN THREE MONTHS Tenders, closing to-morrow, are being called by the Auckland Education board for the addition to the Kaitaia school to accommodate the new high school, and also for the erection of a new infant school in wood. Any doubt that the additions to accommodate the high school would not be ready in time for the opening of the secondary department in the first term of the New Year are removed by the fact that the board specifies the work must be completed by January 31, 1930. The new infant school must be completed within twelve weeks of the acceptance of the tender.
The alteration work will give an additional space of 22ft. bins., giving a total area in the enlarged room of 30ft. by 22ft. 6ins. The contract also covers the supply and fixing of science furniture, plumbing and drainage and the grading and gravelling of paths. The new infant school will provide two classrooms, each 24ft. by 21 ft. 6ins., a temporary teachers’ room 12ft. by 7ft., a cloakroom 18ft. 6ins. by 9ft., and a corridor 42ft. by 7ft., and also a new shelter shed 25ft. by 9ft. The foundation blocks of the main building will be of concrete. Pait of the area around the building is to be gravelled, and part is to be prepared for concreting.
