The chairman of the Mangonui Hospital Board on Wednesday said that fittings and furnishings at the Kaitaia Hospital had cost far more than they should have. A visit was paid to the Kaitaia Memorial Hospital by members of the Board on Wednesday afternoon at the invitation of Matron Sullivan. The members were shown over the institution and afterwards entertained at afternoon tea. In the evening, several members of the board and members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and the builders assembled at the Countv Office when the opening of the hospital for the reception and treatment of patients was duly honoured.

Mr W R McKenzie was the successful tender for the supply of meat for the institution. Mr Houston stated 'on Wednesday that the prices for groceries were most satisfactory and could not have been cut any finer. A feature of the specifications drawn up by Mr Atkins was that only the best of eveiything could be supplied and if the tenderer could not provide the brand and quality tendered for then the Board had the power to buy elsewhere and the tenderer must pay the difference. The tender of Mr Powell for the supply of milk was accepted.

A Tennis Ball is to be held in the Fairburn-Kaiaka Hall on November 4th, A new toll-board has been installed at the Kaitaia Post Office. This is a further indication of progress in our little town.

Tenders received b y the Whangarei Racing Club for its spring fixture were considered highly satisfactory. There were four tenders for the luncheon, afternoon tea and soft drinks provisions, and that of Messrs Adams & Sons, of £B2 10/-, was accepted. Three tenders for spirituous liquors were submitted, and that of Mr Cuthbert (Commercial hotel, Mangawhare), of £lls, was successful.
