WAIPAPAKAURI.

TENNIS. A tennis match was played on Friday, January 22nd, between North Awanui and South Awanui, on Mr. H. Subritzky’s court. In the result North Awanui won easily. The games were: — Doubles—H. L. Claudet and J. Goodwin beat M. Gealic and S. Oldfield, 6—l and B—6. Singles—J. Goodwin beat M. Gealic, 6—2 and 6—4. H. L. Claudet beat S. Oldfield, 6—2 and 6 —4. Afternoon tea was supplied by the home team and altogether a very pleasant time was spent. The Awanui Combined team are to play Pukenui next month. THE CROPS. Between Awanui and Waipapakauri there are some very nice crops of oats, potatoes and maize. These show what the land in the North is capable of under

good management. Mr. George Evans has a crop of oats which, given fine weather from now till the time of reaping, will produce a yield which would bo hard to beat by farms in the Waikato and Canterbury. TTTV DIGGERS. Tho diggers i once again settled down to work and are only to be seen on I mail days, when some lively discussions are generally to be heard regarding the action of tho County Council, as to Licenses, at their last meeting. THE LIBRARY. The annual meeting of the members of the Waipapakauri Library took place last week and the Committee were again able’ to report a successful year. The Committee elected for the ensuing year includes Messrs. J. Evans, sen. (Chairman), F. Russell (Hon. Sec.), E. A. Evans, F. Hirst, H. Perks, G. Whale and J. Goodwin.
