Waipapakauri Races.

(From our own Correspondent.) It was quite a site to see the meeting of old friends at the races on Boxing Day. The smiling faces, the hearty hand-shake, the appearance of the people healthy and well dressed and undoubtedly wealthy (if only in possession of our fine country), but I heard a “bookie” saying that there were a few of the best and brightest about. At all events I am sure that there was a wealth of good ladies—pretty faces and pretty dresses, which added quite a charm to the day’s outing. Another thing I noticed was the decided improvement in our horseflesh—everybody seemed to be riding a good hack or driving a flash turn-out. Too much cannot be said for the good and efficient arrangements for the comfort and convenience of tlie public by the Evanses all round. The following are the results of the racing:— The Hurdles: Problem 1, Kanaka 2. Only two started. Maiden Plate : Eva 1, Moira Ma Chree 2. Lady Dunlouse also started. This was a good race. Gup: Mechanic 1, Ambition 2. The race of the day. Only four started. Mechanic made pack-horses of the rest and won hard held by about a chain and a half. Pony Eace : Mosquito 1, Silent 2. Flying Handicap: Mechanic 1, Dandeloo 2. ' County Plate: 1, Mosquito 2. ~ Publican’s Purse _ Jg *
