Waihopo.
(From a Correspondent.) One of the most successful social functions of the year was held in Mr. W. Povey’s hall at Waihopo on Thursday evening last (20tli December). The residents and parents of Waihopo met to wish God-speed to Miss Bond, assistant teacher of tlie-Waihopo school, on the eve of her departure, as Miss Bond has been removed to another school by the Education Board. The floor was crowded with daiUv V j, who, despite tlie heat, enjoyed themselves thoroughly. During the evening Mr. A. W. Cheeseman, chairman of the Waihopo school committee, on behalf of the residents, presented Miss Bond with a gold watch, and on behalf of the scholars with a gold brooch. In a neat speech Mr. Cheeseman referred to Miss Bond’s good work as a teacher and to her popularity with children and parents, concluding by trusting that the watch would mark many happy hours in her life. Miss Bond responded feelingly, saying that though she would be far away still the watch would help to remind her of the many happy days she spent in Waihopo, and thanked all for their universal kindness to her. Musical items were contributed during the evening by Miss Evaline Tynan and by Messrs. Langridge and George. Mr. C. George directed- operations in his usual efficient manner, and proceedings terminated by the singing of “ Auld Lang Syne.”
