Waipapakauri.

(From our own Correspondent.) The fare-well ball at Waipapakauri on Monday, 10th ult., went off well. There was a big attendance. Mr. Beresford acted as M.C. in his usual capable style. The popular “Chris” w r as quite up to his Best. I think everyone enjoyed themselves all night, and I have pleasure -in giving the ladies’ committee credit for their good management. On Tuesday,'llthHilt., a basket social was held in the Maori hall, in aid of some of the Native church work. Our good old friend again supplied the music. Mr. Napier acted as M.C. The dance was kept up till a quarter to six. Fred. Russell sold the baskets, the receipts totalling about £ls. Examination results at our two schools weie very good. I am pleased to say Mr. McLeod, o* Awanui, is getting over his mishap all right. I would advise “Waihopo” to guess again—it’s a bad thing to jump at conclusions. Anyone passing Waipap. in the early morning would almost think that it was Green Lane by the racy appearance. To see the horsey boys flying round with towels, brushes, etc., the gay appearance of the flags on the racecourse, the highbred racers being led around, others going out for exercise, the bright clothing, the little crowd behind- the hedge anxiously watching a spin, all leads to show that we are not behind other parts of God’s own country in sports, sporting men and some good blood fancy the effort made by the kauri club to redeem racing in this partwill be greatly appreciated by all lovers of true and manly sport, and I undoubtedly think that one good day’s racing is the*right thing. I further think with good management, racing, .and running under recognised rules, that our annual meeting within the next few years will be one of the best north of Auckland. Our genial Ned is going to lay down a new course and build a range of loose boxes, etc., for next year.
