SCHOOL EXAMINATIONS.
ST. MARY'S. The twenty-second anniversary of the above schools, for the boys' division, was held on Wednesday last, the 17th instant. The rapidly increasing numbers in each, department of these schools rendered it necessary to alter the usual plan, consequently a tea party was given to the boys as above, and another party is arranged for the girls on Tuesday next. The frequent light showers on Wednesday last deterred a great many pupils from attending, while we hear there were also a great many still absent in the couutry, as may be gathered from the fact that seven of those carrying o(F prizes were absent. Such sports as were available under the circumstances were energetically supported by Father Gavin, and the teachers, Messrs. Richards and Severne. An abundant and excellent tea was prepared, to which the boys did full justice. The prizes were distributed by his Honour the Superintendent, at six, p.m. The boys were addressed by his Honour, Mr. Luckie, and Father Garin. Cheers were called for and heartily responded to on behalf of his Honour the Superintendent, Father Garin, Mr. Luckie, the School Committee, and the teachers, when the boys were dismissed to tho playground. It is worthy of remark that the whole of the pupils behaved most respectfully during the delivery of the prizes, and whenever called upon by their teachers. The sports were well maintained under the existing difficulties ■until dark, when tho mugic lantern was exhibited, calling forth abundant evidence of appreciation by the youthful audience. At tho conclusion, Father Garin and Mr. Richards addressed a few words to the boys, and the pnrty terminated about ten, p.m., all apparently delighted with the day's sports.
