AUSTRALIAN TELEGRAMS.
Melbourne, May 12. Great floods have taken place in NewSouth "Wales. Standing crops were much injured. Severe gales have been experienced off Newcastle. The brig Burnet foundered, and all hands were lost. The schooner Jessie was wrecked, and three men drowned. The schooner Britannia has been wrecked, the crew saved. The Bon Juan foundered with all hands. The schooner Eagleton was also lost with all hands. The barque Melrose, for Auckland, put into Newcastle, leaking badly. The barque Edinburgh, from Dunedin, was wrecked when entering Newcastle. The Hon. J. H. Plunkett died on the 2nd instaut. A movement has been commenced in Brisbane for obtaining a mail service, via Torres Straits, for Queensland and New Zealand. Mr. .Jones, lately ejected from the Victorian Assembly, has been re-elected for Ballarat by a majority of 559.
