PROPOSED AMALGAMATION OF CANTERBURY ELECTORAL DISTRICTS
[By Eiectbio Teleqeaph.] CuEiSTCHiracir, Monday. The first reading of a Bill to amalgamate the electoral districts, and reduce the representation in the Canterbury Provincial Council, will be moved to-morrow by the Provincial Solicitor. The Executive is divided on the subject, and the Bill will be thrown out. The resignation of the Executive is probable. The Lyttelton Times strongly opposed the Bill. The Jockey Club have changed the future annual meetings from January to Easter week — Easter Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. There is a good programme, which includes a steeplechase on the second day, and a hurdle race on the third day.
