NELSON CITY COUNCIL REPORTS AND CORRESPONDENCE FORTNIGHTLY MEETING YESTERDAY The meeting of the Nelson City Council held yesterday afternoon was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. R. j Neale), Councillors J. A. Harley, A. ■ H. Boyce. S. T. Savage. F. H. Sharland, S. W. Street, J. Newman, and I S. I. Russell. Councillors N. Rout* and H. G. B. Hurst were excused ! from attendance. The Nelson Repertory Theatre’s re- j quest for some concession in respect j of the rates payable on the Theatre ■ Royal was referred to the Finance j Committee. The Department of Internal Affairs advised that the matter of obtaining appropriations for recreation facilities under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act was under consideration. The Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) advised that the Council’s representations regarding the establishment of a transit camp in Nelson were being considered. The Tahunanui Town Board asked if the special committee appointed to consider matters pertaining to the amalgamation of Tahunanui with the city had anything to report. The Mayor said he had hoped that the report of the Local Bodies’ Committee of Inquiry would make recommendations which would be helpful. It was decided that the Mayor make further enquiries in Wellington next week and report to the next meeting. A number of letters were referred to the City Engineer for attention to and the appropriate committees for investigation and report. In reply to a letter from the Under. Secretary of the Public Works Department in respect of the Government Buildings grounds and the possibility of an exchange with Miller’s Acre, it was decided to request that the department’s Land Purchasing Officer come to Nelson to discuss the proposal, as previously promised by the Minister.
