KIWI CUT IN HILLS

LABT WAR MEMORIAL RESTORED London August 28. The huge figure of a Kiwi surmounted by the letteis N.Z., again stands out from the chalk hills bordering Bulford Camp, Salisbury Plain. They were cut out as a memorial by last war New Zealanders from land given by the British War Office,, but were camouflaged and allowed to become overgrown in this war to prevent them from becoming a navigational aid to the Germans. The District Commander. Major-General Laurie, recently gave perrfiission for the memorial to be restored and members of the Devonshire Regiment again cut and cleared it up. The Kiwi measures 420 feet from top to bottom. The letters N.Z. are 65 feet high. An aerial photograph is being sent to New Zealand soon.
