NATIVE LAND COURT

MR D. G. D. MORISON APPOINTED CHIEF JUDGE (Special Reporter) Wellington, This Day. The appointment of Mr D. G. D. Morison, M.C., LL.B., as Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, was announced by the Native Minister, Mr H. G. R. Mason, 'to-day. Mr Morison will succeed Chief Judge G. P. Shepherd who, in vjqw of the pressure of his administrative duties as Undersecretary of the Native Department and Native Trustee, has asked to be relieved of the Chief Judgeship to enable him to devote himself solely to those duties. Mr Morison’s appointment will take effect as from Ist September.

Mr Morison was born in Wellington and over the last 25 years has had an extensive experience in matters connected with Maori land laws and their administration by the Native Department and has frequently represented Maori petitioners before the Native Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives.
