MOTUEKA HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The committee of the Motueka Home and School Association held its monthly meeting recently. presided over by Mrs Muir, the president. After routine matters had been dealt with Mr Foster submitted plans for the planting of shrubs and trees which had been drawn up by the sub-committee formed for that purpose at the previous meeting. There was a general discussion on the sub-committee’s proposals and Mr Gubbins read a report from the Agricultural Inspector giving advice a'nd suggestions on the arrangements so far made, and further advice on the back playing area. It was decided to accept the Inspector’s suggestion for the first mixture of grass on the playing area, the work to be put in hand immediately. It was reported to the committee that work on a kitchenette connecting with the assembly hall was well under way. In connection with the the School Concert the headmaster, Mr Gubbins. informed the committee that it would be held in the Institute Hall in the middle of August. The meeting decided to charge an admission fee of 2s. With regard to the question discussed at the June meeting of providing hot drinks for the children, the meeting was informed that cocoa was now being made every day for any children who wanted it. It was reported to the committee that a Lonicera hedge had been planted between the school’s property and that of Mr Skilton. Mr Gubbins suggested that Arbor Day be held at the school on Tuesday, the 7th of August when the shrubs and trees suggested by the sub-committee would be planted. He invited all members of the Home and School Association -to be present at the ceremony. It was stated that circulars were being sent out in connection with the formation of an Agricultural Club in Motueka.
