AIR FORCE TOURNAMENT FINALS The results of the Air Force Championship events played during the weekend are as follows: Mixed Championship Doubles: Semifinal, Mr and Mrs Ferkins beat Mr and Mrs Purcell 4 6, 6-3. 6-2. Final: Mr and Mrs Ferkins beat Sexton and Mrs Bate, 6-4, 6-1. Men's Handicap Doubles: Chapman and Webley boat Best and O’Connor, 9-4. Semi-finals: Chapman and Webley beat Mechen and Everett 9-3: Webb and Sexton beat Croucher and Jones, 9-2. Final: Webb and Sexton beat Chapman and Webley, 9-7. Ladies’ Handicap Doubles: Mrs Du Flou and Miss Murphy beat Misses Jones and Gasquoine 9-8. Final: Misses Stedman and Challies beat Mrs Du Flou and Miss Murphy 9 5. Ladies Handicap Singles: Miss Hurst beat Miss Cann 9-2: Miss Hurst beat Miss Warnock 9-6; Miss Murphy beat Miss Hurst 9-1; Miss Stedman beat Miss Breayley 9-4; Miss Challies beat Miss M. Smith 9-3. Semi-final: Miss Murphy beat Miss Bell 9-0; Miss Challies beat Miss Stedman 9-3. Final: Miss Challies beat Miss Murphy 9-8. Mixed Handicap Doubles: Mr and Mrs Wright beat Foote and Miss Warnock. 9-4; Mace and Du Flou beat Mr and Mrs Wright. 9-6; Sexton and Mrs Bate beat Wearing and Miss Inwood 9-8. Semi-finals: Mace and Mrs Du Flou beat Sexton and Mrs Bate 9-7; Webley and Mrs Murray won by default. Final: Mace and Mrs Du Flou beat Webley and Mrs Murray 9-7. At the conclusion of the day’s play the chairman of the tournament committee. F/O R. McL. Ferkins, thanked the members of the visiting clubs, particularly Mr Mechen of the Tahuna Club. He also mentioned that there were 90 individual entrants and that the tour nament was a financial success, there being over £l2 available for trophies. He then introduced the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander A. T. Giles, who presented the prizes to the winners, and extended an invitation to and players to an “at home” t£"be held on the Station Courts next Sunday at 1.30 p.m. In conjunction with this function .the semi-finals and finals of the men’s championship singles will be played, in which the well known tennis champion "Roly” Ferkins will play the winner of the match between J. Stanley (Auckland Junior Champion) and the local player W. Sexton.
