RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was attended by the Mayor (Mr A. R. Tuffnell). Councillors J. R. Hart. W. Houston. R. C. A. Marshall. E. C. Gamble, and T. Shackleton. Leave of absence was granted Councillor E. H. Lukey. The foreman reported that the pug wall at the reservoir has been re-pug-ged for a distance of 50 feet and down to a depth of 7 feet to the old pug wall. The condition of the old pug wall appeared to be improving on the eastern side of the wall. The consulting engineer recommended that the wall be re-pugged under the spillway. The council received a deputation from the president and members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union who asked for the council’s sup port in the provision of a croquet lawn and a children’s playground in Richmond. The Council decided to give the subject consideration and to advise the W.D.F.U. of its decision at a lster date. A letter was received from the Nelson City Council, in connection with the Milk Act, 1944. and asking the Council to send representatives to attend a conference to consider whether a Metropolitan or Combined Area organisation should be set up to control the supply of milk. The Mayor. deputy-Mayor and Councillor Gamble were appointed the Council's representatives at the conference.

The Waimea Football Club was granted the use o* Jubilee Park for the season.
