NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL APPOWYMfWT OF DR. RITCHIE WeHinfton, This Day* The appointment of Dr. T. R. Ritchie, of the Department of Health, to the position of Deputy Director-General of Health in succession to the late Dr. R, A. Shore, was announced last evening Ip' the Minister of Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer. Dr. Ritchie has been an officer of the department for nearly 28 years. In the days of his early association with the department Dr. Ritchie devoted considerable time to pathological and bacteriorological work. He spent som# years as Chief Medical Officer in Wes* tern Samoa. On his return to the Do* minion he occupied the position of med* ical officer of health at Dunedin. 1934 he was promoted to the position of director. Division of Public Hy* giene. at head office. This post he hq# held till hfe received his present promotion. During a recent absence of Dr. M. H. Watt. Director-General of Health, from the Dominion, Dr. Ritchie filled the position of Acting Director-General. The Minister also announced that Dr. Ritchie's present position of director. Division of Public Hygiene, would be taken over by Dr. F. S. Maclean, who since 1941 has been responsible for iTm# head office work pertaining to the administration of health benefits under th« Social Security Act.
