EXTRA LABOUR NEEDED MINISTER GIVES ASSURANCE Wellington, This Day. At a conference held yesterday between the Acting Prime Minister, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, and the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, killings and the manpower powtkm at works were discussed. The mam <kst cussion centred on the present sertoS* position which exists owing to the prevailing dry weather rendering immeefr* ately necessary the provision of m* creased manpower to fully staff various works. The problem was stated to be a very urgent one. especially having re* gard to the present need for doing everything possible to increa.se the quantity of meat for Great Britain. It was emphasised that if fat lambs especially those “off their mothers” were not killed when ready they may go back into “stores.” and be lost for export. The Acting Prime Minister assured the board that the Government recognised the necessity for immediate action being taken to meet the position and definite steps were accordingly be* ing taken by his department.—P.A.
