URUWHENUA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Uruwhenua Women’s Institute was held in the schoolroom- There was a very good attendance. The president. Mrs Rogers, welcomed members and visitors to the meeting, which was then opened with the Ode and Aspiration. An apology was received from Mrs Riordon. Mrs S. Rosser, the secretary, received a birthday posy. The Roll Call: “A suggestion for the flower show,” was exceptionally well answered and some splendid ideas were obtained. The monthly competition. “An eggless fruit cake.” judged by Mesdames Pahl and Ward-Holmes, was won by Mrs Aub. Barnett, with Mrs Lindsay and Mrs Kerr equal 2nd- Specimen flower: Mrs Rosser Snr. 1, Mrs S. Rosser 2. Mrs Aub. Barnett 3. This was also judged by Mrs Pahl and Mrs Ward-Holmes. The mystery parcel donated by Mrs Price was won by Mrs Rogers. There were three new members enrolled: Mrs McNabb, Mrs Pahl and Mrs Ward-Holmes. Jt was decided that Mrs Kerr be relieving secretary while Mrs Rosser was on holiday- It was also decided that the branch had no remits to forward for the Council meeting. The hostesses. Miss Lindsay and Miss Rosser served a dainty afternoon tea after which Mrs Ivan Barnett entertained the members by singing two songs. The singing of the National Anthem brought a pleasant afternoon to a close.
