SEASON OFFICIALLY OPENED ! On Monday afternoon (Labour Day) | j the Motueka Bowling Club’s green was j j officially opened for the season by the j | president, Mr Reg. Hamilton. In extending a cordial welcome to visiting bowlers from the Mapua, Rich- j mond and Maitai clubs, Mr Hamilton expressed pleasure at seeing such a good attendance in spite of petrol re- ( strictions. There were, he said, a num- . ber of new bowlers in the Motueka Club this season, and he assured them that they would have plenty of opportunities for learning the game. He congratulated the green committee and the greenkeeper on the excellent condition of the green. Club trophies won during last season were presented as follows: Senior singles, J. Pocklington; junior singles, C. J. Jackson; Kitchingman Cup (pairs), A. Rowling (skip), H. Brownlie (Lad). Mr C. Higgs, Mapua, said the members of his club looked forward to coming to Motueka as they felt they were always welcome. He congratulated the Motueka Club on the splendid condition of its green, especially in view of the fact that the weather had been against the carrying out of the necessary preparations. An invitation was extended to Motueka bowlers to be present at the opening of the Mapua green next Saturday. Mr W. Poole, Richmond, tendered his club’s best wishes for a prosperous and successful season. Petrol restrictions had, he said, kept many away that day, but he hoped that Richmond would have a number of games with Motueka during the current season. Mr E. C.
