NELSON WEST TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
FINAL CARD EVENING The Members of the Nelson West Townswomen’s Guild held their final card evening of the season for soldiers’ parcels in the Marina Tea Rooms. A large and enthusiastic crowd attended and played Flag 500. After many keen games two tables finished up with half a flag between them. The winners proved to be Mesdames Taylor, Twhaites, Gustavel and Corporal Watt, while the second prize-winners were Mesdames Brunt, Topliss, Connibear and Mr Hollyman. The special prize went to Mr Ruffe 11. The aggregate for the season was won by Mrs Newport with Mrs Parker 2nd. Mrs Gustavel presented the prizes, and in a short speech, thanked all who had helped by their patronage to make the parties throughout the year such a success, enabling the Guild to despatch so many soldiers’ parcels overseas. Thanks were due also to the ladies of the social committee who had assisted in the running of the card parties. She had much pleasure in presenting dainty posies to Mesdames Richards, Dayman, and McLean and a small gift to Mr Hollyman who had carried out the duties of M.C. through the season, and to Mr Dayman for his work as doorkeeper. A dainty supper was served by the committee.
