CAR RUNS INTO BANK
MAN AND WOMAN INJURED PASSENGER S PRESENC E OF MIND The presence of mind of a backseat passenger in a car prevented what might have been a more serious accident last night on Spooner’s Range. As it was the driver, Mrs Grace Gage, suffered concussion and a passenger in the front seat. Mr Stephen Wilde, received a probable fracture of the skull, and his condition was reported to-day to be serious. Mrs Gage’s condition was satisfactory. A car was travelling down the hill towards Nelson at about 2 a.m. when, it is thought, the driver, Mrs Gage, dozed off. Seeing the car was out of control Mrs M. Frost, who was in the back seat, grabbed the steering wheel and turned the car into the bank. Two of the passengers walked down the hill and were picked up by a following car. Assistance was obtained and the injured people brought into the Nelson Public Hospital.
