WADSWORTH’S STAFF BALL

POPULAR SOCIAL EVENT AT TAKAKA FUNDS FOR WOMEN'S NATIONAL RESERVE The popularity of Wadsworth’s staff ball was demonstrated at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Takaka. on Friday evening, when the annual function again attracted a large attendance, dancers coming from almost every corner of Golden Bay. The net proceeds on this occasion were in aid of the Women’s National Reserve’s Patriotic Fund. The total proceeds were £53 18s 6d. Door takings totalled £42 12s. while donations and special competitions added another £ll Gs. Expenses were kept to a minimum, as is shown by the fact that the patriotic funds benefited by approximately £42. An attractive scheme of decorations made a gay setting for the ball. Crepe paper was used to shape a central bell, from which radiated narrow streamers alternated with broad streamers and festoons of three-cornered flags, the general colour scheme being delicate shades of pink, yellow, green and i mauve. Multi-coloured paper chains and three-cornered flags, against a background of Union Jacks, “fenced” off the stage, and converted it into an orchestral dais. The fence effect was accentuated by bright posts adorned with bowls of arum lilies and spring flowers. Reynish’s De Luxe Orchestra of four players provided the music and extras were played by Messrs H. V. Taylor and 11. Logan. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Eileen Bevin and Mr R. Harwood and the lucky spot dance by Mrs A. Muir and Mr Frank Sparrow. Special competitions were won by Mis: Giblin (chocolates) and Miss G. Hall (bread board). Arrangements for the excellent supper were carried out by the staff and members of the Takaka branch of the Women’s National Reserve. During the evening, Mr W. Canning, who officiated as master of ceremonies, thanked the public for their attendance in such large numbers and the W.N.R. lor its assistance with the supper arMrs O. E. R.
