ANNUAL MELTING HEUD The annual meeting of the Lower Moutere Women's Institute was held at Mrs Harding's residence, the attendance i being good considering that apple work ! was still in full swing. Mrs Rosenberg, the treasurer. was congratulated by members and by the auditor (Mr Harry Manoy) on the neatness of her books. A letter wai forwarded to Mr Manoy expressing appreciation of his services as auditor Mrs Rosenberg was the winner of , the points prize for the year. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: President, Mrs C. H. Mackay: vicepresidents, Mesdames Harding and MeBrydie; secretary, Mrs R. L. Everett; treasurer, Mrs W. Rosenberg; committee, Mesdames Mackay, Everett, Rosenberg. Harding, Mcßrydie, L. Mackay, Best. Haining, Davis, Woodley. Mrs R. Everett was appointed delegate to the council meeting at Takaka. 1 It was resolved to renew the subscription to the “Country Woman,” the ! publication of which is being so courageously carried on by the A.C.W.W. | in spite of the conditions in London. A letter was received from Miss ! Mary Griggs. Berkshire, England, asking for support for a projected country woman’s news letter. It was decided to I support the venture. 1 ! The returns for the onion growing [ competition were received, the average ; being just over 81bs per person. Jn respect to the letter from the , Ngatimoti Women's Institute asking for support in catering for the next half yearly council, it was decided that the Lower Moutere Institute's assistance ' be given. . Mrs Harding (retiring president) and j j Mrs C. H. Mackay (retiring secretary) . were presented with beautiful bouquet* ; and Mrs Mcßrydie (vice-president) and Mrs Rosenberg (treasurer) were j the recipients of shoulder sprays made ’ ; by Mrs Best. A very dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Best and , Mrs Harding. ’ Mrs Harding very kindly renewed j her offer of the use of her room. The meeting closed with the singing of the _ i National Anthem. 5 I POHARA BRANCH MEETS S : 1 The monthly meeting of the Pohara i W.I. was held recently, Mrs O. C. Miller r presiding over a good attendance of . members. The motto "Troubles are ;like children; they grow bigger the i more they are noticed” seemed very appropriate. The Roll Call of “What -j was the most pleasant sound in the , morning” was answered with great variety. A vote of thanks was accordg ed Mrs Jennings for having copies of the Institute Prayer typed for members. s Arrangements were made to hold the institute birthday party on 21st May in ~ the form of a card and social afternoon. ! During the afternoon Mrs Hitchcock gave a very interesting deinonstvaj tion of making a Victorian posy, for presentation or show purposes. Members were very interested and decided to ~ make it a competition for later on. The best bloom was won by Mrs Grant. y Mrs Galloway and Mrs Bruce tying lor g second place. The handcraft competi-
tion of a “dust cap” was won by Mr* Galloway, Mrs Aitcheson being second. A pleasant afternoon tea was served.
