TWO MEN SENTENCED

COMMENT BY HIS HONOUR [United Press Association] Christchurch, This Day. Sentences of twelve months’ imprisonment were imposed to-day by Mr Justice Northcroft on Eric Alexander Jackson and Harold James Greatorex Jackson was found guilty on two charges of having documents in his possession with a view to facilitating publication of a subversive statement. Greatorex was found guilty on a similar charge. Addressing Jackson, the Judge said it would be appropriate if Jackson could be imprisoned for the duration of the war, but the maximum penalty provided was twelve months, to which Jackson was sentenced on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. “You are clearly a menace to the community,” said the Judge, in sentencing Greatorex.
