BRITISH ADVANCE CONTINUING IMPORTANT POSITIONS CAPTURED OPERATIONS IN OTHER THEATRES [British Official Wireless) (Rec. 10.45 a.m.) Rugby May 15. The arrival of German aircraft in Iraq is recorded in a Middle East communique, which states: “Our troops have been continuing vigorous patrolling activities both in the Tobruk and Solium areas. On 12th April South African Troops with the co-operation of Patriots captured some further important positions covering Amba Alagi. Prisoners were taken during the day to the number of 24 Italian officers, and 375 ether ranks and 32 colonial other ranks. The advance is continuing. Further south operations are proceeding successfully at all points. As the result ot engagements in the lakes area south of Addis Ababa on 13th May nine light tanks were captured. “Following an urgent appeal by Raschid Ali to the Axis partners a certain number of German aircraft have now arrived in the country bringing propagandists, agitators and other similar Axis specialists. The situation at Basra and Habbania Is quiet.” FIERCE ITALIAN RESISTANCE (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) London, May 15. An Italian communique states:— ‘Enemy pressure in Abyssinia continues in all sectors, particularly at Amba Alagi. where the Italians are resisting fiercely."
