Mr H. Hudson, who has been for 35 years a master at Christ’s College, will retire at the end of this term. A presentation will be made to him by old boys of the school on 17th December. Mr Hudson holds the degree of B.A, from Oxford; he taught in Australia for a time before he came to New Zealand. He has been well known as a gymnast and has helped hundreds of boys who have passed through the school both in their academic work and in their sports, especially gymnastics. Mr L. M. Evans, of Nelson, who left recently to take up training in England as an officer in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, has advised his parents, Mr and Mrs R. P. Evans of his safe arrival. At a special meeting of the Motueka Borough Council feeling reference was made by the Deputy Mayor, Mr S. E. Hulbert, to the passing of the Town Clerk’s mother, Mrs A. Kirk, and a motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives. Mr Charles A. Noble. M.A., first assistant, has been appointed principal of the Christchurch West High School. Born in 1902, he was educated at New Plymouth and Auckland, finally taking his M.A. degree. He served on the staffs of the Auckland Grammar School. Rotorua and Whangarei High Schools, and as science master at Scots College, Wellington. In 1933 he was appointed senior assistant at the Christchurch West District High School, and in 1935, when the school became the Christchurch West High School, he was appointed official head of the mathematics and science department. Since February Mr Noble has been on leave and acting as inspector of schools. Mr P. R Climie. organiser of the Canterbury Progress League, who has been absent during a long illness, resumed duties this week.
