N.Z.E.F. RUGBY TEAM IN ENGLAND SPECTACULAR MATCH WITH CARDIFF [U.P.A.-By Electric l'elegraph-Copyright | (Received 9th December, 9 a.m.) CARDIFF, Bth December. The match in which the New Zealand Army Rugby team was defeated 12-3 yesterday is regarded as easily the best match of the Welsh season. The New Zealanders, until the lasi few minutes, had every hope of overcoming the handicap of an early dropped goal by Cardiff. “The Sunday Times” says that none of the 10,000 spectators would have complained if the New Zealanders’ hopes had been realised. Their happy mixture of stirring forward play and combined work by the backs would be hard to beat as a spectacle and a little more thrust on the part of the All Blacks’ five-eighths would have made a tremendous difference, although their hooking in hard scrummages was poor. The closeness of their markings and excellence of their tackling was the best feature jf the New Zealanders’ play. Cardiff scored a penalty goal just before the interval and Howell scored a splendid try for the New Zealanders near the end. Cardiff, then, after a sweeping dribble, obtained a converted try.
