GALLANT SCOUT
AWARD OF SILVER MEDAL The Silver Medal for gallantry of the Boy Scout Association has been awarded to Scout lan Peach, Taumarunui. The Dominion Headquarters of the Boy Scout Association in Wellington announced yesterday that the Dominion Chief Scout, Lord Galway, had approved the award. A lad of 14, lan Peach distinguished himself during the February floods in the King Country this year. He plunged into the Wanganui river when it was in full flood, and swam with a lifeline 150 yards to a man of the name of Harland, marooned in a very dangerous position. The boy succeeded in reaching Mr Ifarland, made fast the line, and returned safely along it accompanied by the man he had saved. In recommending him for the award, scout officials pointed out that to swim 150 yards in the flooded Wanganui river was no mean task, even for a grown man. The Cornwall Decoration, awarded in October to Scout Stanley Cole, Wellington, was presented to him in the presence of Scout leaders by the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Galway, at Government House yesterday.
