ASSOCIATION OF N.Z. ADVERTISERS
OFFICERS RE-ELECTED [United Press Association] WELLINGTON, This Day. The ninth annual meeting of tha Association of New Zealand Advertisers was held at the Commercial Travellers’ Club, Wellington, with a widely representative gathering of members. In welcoming members tha I president, Mr E. L. Rutledge, mentioned that this was the association’s second annual meeting since the outbreak of war. The keynote of the last annual meeting was “carry on as usual,” but the keynote of this meeting he felt should be “Work harder than usual.” The annual report disclosed a satisfactory year’s progress. The good work of the association had been continued throughout the past year successfully in spite of increasing difficulties which beset every phase of business under present day conditions, the report said. One the whole, advertiser* throughout New Zealand had shown great courage and enterprise in continuing to use all available media to the limit of their resources. During the year the association had further evidence that the principle behind the uniform audit of circulations system was now fully understood and appreciated by the most influential publishers. Negotiations in connection with the difficult question of signs and hoardings regulations were continued during the year, and had now reached a stage where there were very few point* of difference to be dealt with. In calling attention to the appeal received from the National Saving* Council, the president urged all members to co-operate in the nation’s war effort by including “National Savings Slogans” in their advertisements wherever possible. The confidence of members in their executives was reflected in the reelection of all officers for the ensuing year as follows: President, Mr E. L. Rutledge (20th Century Fox Film Corporation of N.Z. Ltd); vice-presi-dents. Messrs W. J. Chartres (Ross and Glendining Ltd.), and H. G. Miller (Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. of N.Z. Ltd.); council, Messrs J. H. Simpson (Lever Bros., N.Z., Ltd.), R. J. MeCallum (Atlantic Union Oil Co., Ltd.), C. H. Roser (National Electrical and Engineering Co., Ltd.), W. Ginders <R. Hannah and Co., Ltd.), C. S. Loughlin (Aspro Ltd.), A. R. Wright (General Motors. N.Z., Ltd.), and S. S. Scott (Berlei, N.Z., Ltd.); hon. treasurer. Mr R. Felton (Paramount Films Ltd.); auditor. Mr T. L. Buxton. At the conclusion of the meeting Major E. H. Whiting, army publicity officer, attached to Army Headquarters, delivered an address on “Publicity as Applied to the War Effort.” This was greatly appreciated, and Major Whiting was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
