HOLIDAY VISITORS

MANY COMING TO NELSON DEMAND FOR HUT ACCOMMODATION Despite the war and petrol restrictions—or perhaps because of the latter —holiday visitors to Nelson promise to be as numerous as usual. The Automobile Association has received many enquiries for accommodation and camp sites from other parts of New Zealand, from Palmerston North, Marton, i Hawera and Wellington in the north and Timaru, South Westland and Greymouth in the south. The two favourite rfcsorts are Tahuna and Kaiteriteri where there is a demand for camp sites and also for huts. Many holiday makers coming to Nelson from other parts of New Zealand are surprised to find that the Automobile Association or other interested bodies has not made any provision for hut accommodation. There is a ring of such accommodation right round the North Island and in several places in the South Island. Generally speaking, this has been found a paying proposition, as the huts are filled not only in Christmas and Easter holidays, but at other periods of the year as well. Petrol restrictions may be having some influence on the choice of Nelson for a holiday this Christmas. Enquiries have been received from motorists who are not bringing their cars. The restrictions naturally will have a marked effect on the number of miles that can be travelled, but the choice of a holiday at the beach make its possible to spend a pleasaxxt time and yet keep within the limit of the petrol coupons. For those who are able to ”jo further afield the Golden Bay area is becoming more popular each year. Not advertised throughout New Zealand as extensively as some other scenic regions, the surprise waiting for the tourist who experiences its attractions is all the greater. There have been many instances in past years of visitors going for a run to Golden Bay and returning resolved to come back and spend a holiday there later. The roads throughout the province promise to be in very fair order to carry holiday traffic.
