PERSONAL MESSAGE
STORY HEAVILY DISCOUNTED AT WHITEHALL (Received 28th August, 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, 27th August. Whitehall heavily discounts the story that Herr Hitler sent a personal message to Mr Chamberlain. The Central News says that Herr Hitler s proposals at present are unacceptable, but Britain will leave the door open for further negotiations and make it plain that she is not weakening to Poland. It is semi-officially stated that there has been no pressure from the British Government to induce Poland to modify her attitude.
