COAL STRIKE DEADLOCK
ULTIMATUM ISSUED BY ROOSEVELT SETTLEMENT MUST BE REACHED (U-P.A B.v Electric Telegraph—Copyright! (Received 11th May, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON. 10th May. President Roosevelt to-day issued a | virtual ultimatum to both sides in the coal strike deadlock, urging them to submit by to-night to a plan in which mining operations can be resumed immediately.
More than 500.000 miners are out of work and many industries are facing a disastrous closure. The President warned of stern alternatives unless prompt atcion was forthcoming.
