SWIMMING CARNIVAL
MANY OUTSIDE COMPETITORS TO-NIGHT The quality of the competitors assures the public of a splendid evening’s sport at the swimming carnival to be held at the Municipal Baths to-night. Never before have such strong teams been seen at a local carnival. C. Robinson, Westport, is a great distance swimmer, winning the Annette Kellerman Cup in 1936 and having fastest time in the same event last year Colin Foote. Otago University, is the backstroke champion and record holder for this event at the University This swimmer is also a New Zealand Rowing Blue and was emergency for New Zealand eight-oared crew. M. Marks, of the Nelson team. Is a New Zealand Varsity champion for 220 yards and 440 yards in 1937 J. Frank is a very promising distance swimmer and one who should take a -ot of beating in the 220 yards. A. T. Bolam is another Annette Kellerman Cup winner and has represented Canterbury at New Zealand championships with distinction. Miss E Nesbit is a Wellington champion of last year, and the many other swimmers representing their respective clubs assure patrons of a great evening’s sport.
