WELLINGTON WIN FIRST RACE OTAGO CAPSIZES AFTER FIRST TURN [United Press Association! INVERCARGILL, 20th January. The first Sanders Cup race was sailed on Bluff harbour this afternoon in squally weather with a strong westerly blowing. Wellington was first home. Times for the race were: —Vanguard, 1.27.27, 1; Vorena, Southland, 1.29.49. 2; Huia, Canterbury, 1.30.12. 3; Marjorie, Auckland, 1 38 8,4; Lavina. Stewart Island, 1.33.16, 5 Lynette. Otago, capsized after the first turn. The windward and leeward course wrs only five miles and a half long, because of the strong ebb tide. The first race was to have been held in the morning, but on the run up to the starting point Marjorie struck & sandbank and capsized The boat was towed to the wharf, where the minor damage was repaired, but her ill-luck was not yet finished.
