SUNDAY HOLE BRIDGE
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER OF PUBLIC WORKS ROAD DEVIATION SUGGESTED AS ALTERNATIVE The bridging of Sunday Hole ford in the Maitai Valley was the subject of a deputation which waited on the Minister of Public Works., the Hon. R. Semple, prior to his departure for Westport this monring. The deputation, which was introduced by Mr H. Atmore, M.P., represented the Waimea County Council. Nelson City Council, Nelson Provincial Progress League, Nelson Automobile Association, and the Maitai Golf Club. and comprised Messrs J. Corder. G. L. Page. C. Rout. W. Grace, J. A. Harley. W. V. Powell. E. R, Neale, and Dr. S. A. Gibbs The deputation explained the value of the Maitai Valley to the City of Nelson and to the people of the district, and referred to the many bodies interested in the erection of the bridge which it was hoped the Department would consider worthy of a larger subsidy than the amount usually made to county councils An alternative suggestion was that the road be deviated along the hillside to avoid the erection of a bridge. The Minister replied that the Department would investigate the probable cost of the work and would reply to the deputation at a later date
