Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, j replying to a deputation from the ; Southland Acclimatisation Society today. A plea was made by a member of the deputation for consideration wapiti because of the attraction they provided for overseas visitors, particularly sportsmen. ”1 am not prepared to support any i particular movement lo induce people i to come here at the expense of something more beautiful than the wapiti—our native flora,” the Minister added. “If we fail to conserve that bush we will be committing a grave breach of i trust. I have declared war on the lot. I’m sorry, but that is the position. They; are doing a lot of damage.”
