GIRL BATHER’S DEATH

Believed to have been injured by the ; sting of a stingray while bathing at \ the Thames coast near Tatu this after- 1 noon, a girl received fatal injuries 1 The victim was Miss Jessie Merle j Laing, aged 18. daughter of Mr ana Mrs A. E. Laing, Waitakaruru. When Miss Laing was assisted from the water she was found to be suffering from two wounds, one on the thigh and the other, much deeper, on the chest. A passing motorist took her to j the Thames Hospital, which is about 10! miles distant, but she died on the way A post mortem examination will be held to ascertain the cause of death. People present at the time of th-?! accident say that they saw the fin ofj a fish above the surface of the water.
