FIELD COMPETITIONS
THE PLACINGS REPORT TO MOTUEKA A. &. P. ASSOCIATION IFrom Our Own Correspondent) Placings of the Field Competitions have been received by the secretary of the Motueka A. and P. Association (Mr J O. C. Wilkisonn). They are as follows: Class 332: R. Teece, Upper Moutere, 1; O. Cole, Pokororo, 2; F. McMahon, Riwaka, 3. Pastures entered were generally of good quality, though rank and uncontrolled seasonal growth considerably detracted from show appearance in a number of instances. Class 333: W. C. Eyles, Pangatotara, 1; W. H. Goodall, Riwaka, 2; J. B. Scott, Riwaka, 3. The leading entry of this class was of considerable merit. Class 334: C. Fenemor, Stanley Brook, 1; N. A. Win, Dovedale, 2; D. Barker, Stanley Brook, 3. The leading entry in this section was the heaviest yielding crop noted this 1 season in the Nelson district. The standard of entries in this class was high. LUCERNE Class 335: G. Wilkinson, Tapawera, 1; W. D. Whelan, Ngatimoti, 2. Due to there being low entries in this class, competition was not as keen as usual. The judge commented that he con- i sidered that a great deal more interest could be taken in the lucerne competitions. SUBTERRANEAN CLOVER Class 341: L. Cowin, Motueka, 1; N. A. Win, Dovedale, 2; A. James, Tasman, 3. The subterranean clover entries proved difficult to place, stated the judge, for the reason that one entry was made from an area where sub- [ terranean clover had been sown on Moutere clay soil with no other pasture grasses present; while an additional entry was from a soil type not strictly of the Moutere clay class.
