SUCCESS IN NEW YORK OVATION BY BIG AUDIENCE I O P.A.— Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyrightl NEW YORK. 24th November. The Australian soprano, Miss Marjorie Lawrence, singing Brunnhilde in Wagner’s “Walkure” last night, was given an ovatiou by a capacity audience, at the Metropolitan Opera, which cast aside convention momentarily and held up the performance after the first exit, the applause making it impossible for Wotan to proceed. Miss Lawrence responded to numerous curtain calls The “New Y'ork Times” says: “Miss Lawrence, in addition to the fresh and dramatic character of her voice, has illusion not only for the ear hut for the eye. It is a youthful and heroic figure she presents, clad in the Walkure’s armour and her interpretation is full of vitality and emotion.”
