PROHIBITIONIST KIDNAPPED
ELEVEN DAYS IN ABANDONED MINE (United Press Association— By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright I NEW YORK, 13th November. A message from Huntingdon (West Virginia) says that, bruised and exhausted, Dr James Seder, aged 79, a former missionary in Japan, is recovering ;tfter escaping from abductors who held him captive 11 days in an abandoned coal mine. G-men arrested two men, Arnett.Booth and John Travis, who later confessed. The third kidnapper, Orville Atkins, was captured without resistance at Canada (Kentucky). Dr Seder managed to escape while the mine was not guarded. He was found hours later by a farmer who heard his groans. A ransom of 50,000 dollars was previously demanded of Dr Seder’s son, but was not paid. Dr Seder is one of the most prominent United Stales prohibitionists.
