AUCKLAND POINT SCHOOL
INCREASED PLAYING AREA TO BE PROVIDED ALSO AN OVER-BRIDGE It will be recalled that shortly before vacating office as Minister for Education, Mr Harry Atmore, M.P., voiced the necessity for increased playing area for the girls and boys "attending the Haven road primary school and he suggested that some acres should be reclaimed from the mudfiat opposite and connected with the present school ground by an over-bridge so as to ensure freedom from accidents in view of the large amount of street traffic at that point. He further discussed the matter with the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, chairman of the Nelson Education Board, who is in cordial agreement with the proposal. Recently, Mr Atmore approached the Hon. Mr Fraser, Minister for Education,' and was assured of full co-opera-tion with the project. The Hon. P. C. Webb was then interviewed and he heartily approved and gave immediate instructions for the preparation of the necessary survey and plans. These arc now ready, and on Monday next the chairman of the School Committee, the Public Works Engineer, the Mayor, the Hon. Mr Mclntyre, and Mr Atmore are to visit the locality for final decision. The Hon. Mr Webb assured the member for Nelson there would be no delay in carrying out the work. It is anticipated that from eight to twelve acres will be handled.
