ATTITUDE OF LABOUR MEASURE OF REARMAMENT INDISPENSABLE FOREIGN POLICY STATEMENT ADOPTED [United Press Association-By Electric Telegraph—Copy rightl (Received lltli September. 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, 10th September. Sir Walter Citrine (General Secretary! at the Trades Union Conference, in moving the adoption of the foreign policy statement, said that with the new technique of waging war without declaration against civilians the safest place might be in the trenches. If Fascists used armed might there must be some deterrent. The cry might come from the general public that the limit of retreat han been reached and call cn the Government to act. The cry was actually raised now. How could they escape the conclusion that some measure ri rearmament was indispensable if the country was to face its obligations? Labour would not be indifferent to the defence of our own shores. (Cheers). The policy was adopted by a card vote by 3.544.000 to 224.000.
