TRIBUTE TO NEW ZEALAND ALL THE BRAINS NOT IN EUROPE {United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copy right! LONDON, 22nd June. Mr C. R. Attlee, chairman of the Labour Party, gave a dinner to the New Zealand Prime Minister (Mr M. J Savage) at which Mr Ernest Bevin, secretary of the Transport Workers’ Union, toasted the Government of New Zealand, which, he said, had proved that all the brains were not in Europe The Dominion was leading the Mother Country, and he hoped Australia would follow her example at the next election. He prayed that Australia would achieve Labour unity equal to that in New Zealand.
Mr Savage declared that little opposition was left in New Zealand. There was a possibility of an applica tion for further quotas on New Zealand produce entering Britain, which would act as a deterrent to migration. “I would extremely regret any move which would force us into that position,’’ he said. He added that if the Empire was to live its components must accomplish tiiis together. The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, reiterated his denial that Mr Eden influenced his speeches at Geneva, and said that any attempt to interfere with New 2 ealand’s foreign policy would have been regarded as an insult. Mr Eden was actually amending his own speech, which Mr Jordan had previously been shown.
