STRIKE RIOTS IN TRINIDAD TOTAL DEATHS FOURTEEN MARINES LANDED FROM WARSHIP OIL INDUSTRY CRIPPLED {United Press ABsocintjon— By Electrio Telegraph—Copy right] (Received 24th June, 9.10 a.m.) PORT OF SPAIN (Trinidad), 23rd June. Four more were killed in a clash between strikers and police, bringing the list of dead to 14. Four platoons of marines were landed from H.M.S. Ajax and established machine-guns in strategic positions in order to protect the oilfields. H.M.S. Exeter is expected soon with reinforcements.
At Rio Clara, a mob burned the railway station, tore up the tracks and cut telephone wires, isolating the region.
Port of Spain harbour workers declared their sympathy with the strike. The Island’s entire oil industry is crippled and much other business has been suspended.
