HOARDERS’ GOLD
FRENCH GOVERNMENT’S EN- n-wA DEAVOURS TO EXTRACT THREATS REPLACED WITH : ' BRIBES (United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PARIS, 16th December. , Having failed by threats to extract hoarders’ gold, of an estimated value of £80,000,000, the Government now hopes to succeed with bribes. M. Auriol, Minister of Finance, announces that gold bars, coin and certificates will be accepted as subscriptions for a new £70,000,000 defence loan, though gold will only be a‘c- ’ cepted at a devalued rate. The loan w. will be repaid at 40 per cent, above the nominal value. In addition, a special law was passed extending until 15th February the term enabling the declaration of gold hoardings anonymously. It is estimated also that notes valued ,at £300,000,000 are hoarded.
