CHRISTCHURCH, 22nd May. When householders at Okarito, on the West Coast, arrived at school on the night set down for the election of a committee they found that the, school had been locked by the secretary (Mrs E. Jones) and the meeting at which the committee whs elected was held elsewhere 1 . . Mrs Jones disputed the legaljty of the election, contending that it fluid been held in the school residence, and the matter was considered at tins morning’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board. The secretary, Mr L. E, Rowley, explained tlie position as outlined, stating that Mrs Jones had locked the. school'on the night of 27th April, tli£ date fixed by the board for the election, and had advertised a postponement of the election until 9th May. Her excuse had been that she had not got hei books back in time. It was her own fault, however, for she bad not sent the books over for audit until the (lay of the election. Tlie chairman. Mr C. S. A member said that tlie meeting was held in a lean-to in the school grounds, and he contended that this was in the school, so that the election was in order.
